Dare2Dream At The Heineken Lagos Fashion Design Week 2017

The Heineken Lagos Fashion Design Week began with pomp and pageantry on the 25th of October 2017. Day 1 of the Heineken Lagos Fashion Design Week saw Morafa, the winner of the Dare2Dream season 1 designer’s category open the show with his collection. His suit pieces were classic and elegant and the audience could not hide their excitement as the models strutted the runway.

Dare2Dream was not left out as we wowed the audience with our multi talented models, Naya and Blessing who were finalists from the fourth season of Dare2Dream; Tolu Balogun, winner of the first season. They walked the runway in designs by Kinabuti alongside Denrele, a Dare2Dream juror and mentor. Denrele added spice as he made his way through the runway, stopping to take a selfie just like Cara de Lavigne. He had the crowd screaming and cheering in excitement.

Other collections showcased by designers during the fashion week include the Maybelline Collection, the Andrea Iyamah collection, DNA by Iconic Invanity. Plus size models were not left out as Toolz Demuren walked the runway for About That Curvy Life Collective.

It was four days of great shows, glamour, networking and masterclasses taught by international personalities like: Sara Marino, the Deputy Editor In Chief, Vogue Italia and head of Vogue Talents; Bonang Matheba, South African Television personality and radio host.

The Executive Director and Founder of LFDW had been quoted saying “The underlying vision has always been to move the conversation beyond fashion towards creating an ecosystem of thriving fashion businesses that can impact the Nigerian economic landscape. It is about adding value to the industry, through creating various platforms that allow knowledge acquisition, skills, development, access to market and showcasing talents to a networked global audience”.

The success of the fashion week points to a statement made by Dakore Akande, a Nigerian actress at the Grand Finale of Dare2Dream 2017. She said, “Africa is the last continent, the last frontier and Fashion in Africa is exploding”.

The fashion week was brought to an end with the Heineken live your music party anchored by Do-2d-tun. Jidenna and  Tiwa Savage thrilled the audience and gave them the opportunity to truly ” live their music”.
